Alexander Kim, general director of Sputnik, was detained in St. Petersburg. Its employees organized an excursion to the Moscow collector, where five people died. This is reported by TASS with reference to law enforcement agencies.
Kim is a suspect in the case of providing services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of more than two people due to carelessness. The general director of “Sputnik” allegedly tried to hide abroad. From St. Petersburg, he will be taken to Moscow, where the investigation will apply for the election of a restraining order against him.
According to the investigation, the organizers of underground tours could not have been unaware of the risks they were exposing their clients to. Weather forecasters warned of a high probability of torrential rains that could cause flooding of the collector. Despite this, the digger instructors did not cancel the planned excursion.
- On August 20, a group of diggers died in Moscow – lovers of exploring underground sewage and water pipes, as well as subway tunnels. They took part in a tour of the capital’s collectors. Due to the downpour, the water level rose sharply, and the collectors were flooded. According to preliminary data, only eight people went underground, the rescuers managed to find the bodies of five – two 15-year-old girls, a 17-year-old boy and a couple from St. Petersburg. The search for the rest continues.
- The tour guide, presumably, was 31-year-old Konstantin Filippov, who belongs to the Moscow community of diggers. Filippov’s whereabouts are unknown, he is considered missing with the group.
- After the tragedy, law enforcement agencies detained one of the leaders of the Moscow diggers, Nikita Dubas, who may have been involved in organizing the excursions.
