Ian Dworkin, head of the Tsentr T support group for transgender and non-binary people, was fined 100,000 rubles for an article on LGBT+ propaganda.
The case against the activist was initiated on the complaint of guardianship authorities. They accompanied Dworkin’s family, as there is a child under his care. Posts in Dworkin’s Telegram channel became the reason for mourning. There, among other things, he talks about his life with his partner.
During the hearing, the lawyers pointed out errors in the case and noted that the screenshots of the posts were cut in such a way that the logic of the text was violated. The defense demanded that the court proceedings be stopped and that Dworkin’s child be taken into account. The boy has a disability, he often gets sick and is “very attached” to Dvorkin.
The activist himself did not admit guilt and stated that he was outraged by the existence of an article about LGBT+ propaganda. “It is inhumane that the state legally discriminates against the entire population, which is about 14 million Russian citizens,” Dvorkin wrote in his appeal to the court.
He intends to appeal the sentence.
- Since December 2022, the dissemination of positive information about homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism has been prohibited in Russia. Fines of up to 400,000 rubles for citizens and up to five million rubles for organizations are provided for this.
