The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zhaparov, signed a law prohibiting the distribution of information dangerous to children on the territory of the country. According to the document, it means information that “denies family and traditional social values, promotes non-traditional sexual relations, and creates disrespect for parents or other family members.”
Also, the document prohibits the dissemination in the mass media of materials encouraging children to commit suicide, take drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, participate in gambling, prostitution, and begging.
Human rights activists note that the law is very similar to the one that was adopted in 2013 in Russia. Then Putin banned so-called LGBT propaganda among minors. Later, this law was tightened. Now he prohibits the “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations, pedophilia and gender reassignment” among all Russians, effectively introducing a taboo on the discussion of homosexuality and transgenderism in any, other than negative, context.
The Insider, in turn, reports that the Kyrgyz parliament plans to adopt a bill on “foreign agents”, which is also very similar to the Russian one. Voting on this document was postponed until autumn.
