The head of British foreign intelligence MI6, Richard Moore, spoke to the press in Prague on Wednesday. He said that MI6 is observing a “deep split” in the entourage of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In particular, he believes that the mutiny of PMC “Wagner” on June 23-24 this year became an indicator of the “irreparable decline” of Putin’s “unstable autocracy.”

Moore said that, according to his department, Russia is unlikely to be able to regain its position in the war in Ukraine.

In addition, Richard Moore compared the current Russian situation with the suppression of protests in Prague in 1968, when Soviet troops were introduced into the Czech Republic. According to Moore, many Russians today face the same moral questions as their ancestors did in 1968. “They understand in their hearts that the alleged reasons for which Putin attacked the brotherly Slavic people are a ball of lies and fantasies,” Moore said.

The British authorities believe that the attempt on Skripal was the work of the Russian special services.
