Chinese Defense Minister Li Shanfu is visiting Russia and Belarus this week. The visit will last from August 14 to 19.

In Moscow, Li Shangfu will take part in the XI Conference on International Security, where he will deliver a speech. His talks with the leadership of the Russian Defense Ministry are also expected.

During his visit to Belarus, Li Shangfu is scheduled to meet with the authoritarian leader of the country, Alexander Lukashenko, and military officials, the Chinese Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

In April of this year, when Li met in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin, it was announced that the two countries were ready to strengthen military ties.

As France-Press notes, calling Moscow and Beijing strategic allies, relations between Russia and China became even closer after the beginning of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine in February last year and the introduction of tough sanctions against Moscow by the Western allies.

The People’s Republic of China did not officially declare its support for the Russian invasion, but it did not publicly condemn Moscow for its attack on Ukraine. The West has repeatedly warned Beijing against military supplies to Russia.
