The court in Yekaterinburg fined the head of the local “Memorial” one hundred thousand rubles for the article on the discrediting of the Russian army.
The reason was the statement of the Yekaterinburg “Memorial” and the photo of Mosin with an anti-war poster published on the website of the “Ural Memorial”. The organization notes that Mosyn does not have access to the “Ural Memorial” website, and the photo with the “No War” poster was taken even before the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In April, two protocols were drawn up against Mosin on the article on the discrediting of the Russian army. More than a hundred scans of materials published on the website of the “Ural Memorial” were attached to them. Earlier, the Orenburg Cossack army complained about them.
Because of these publications, the court in Yekaterinburg recently fined the local “Memorial” 300 thousand rubles. Yevgeny Roizman, the former mayor of Yekaterinburg, promised to pay the fines imposed on “Memorial” and Mosin.
- The Russian authorities liquidated “Memorial”, which recorded political repressions in the USSR and in modern Russia, in February 2022.
- In addition to the Ekaterinburg branch of “Memorial”, the Center of Historical Memory in Perm – the legal successor of the local “Memorial” – is being persecuted. His manager was arrested on charges of smuggling of cultural values, nine people were searched in connection with the case.
- According to “Mediazona” estimates, by the beginning of June 2023, more than seven thousand cases of “discrediting” of the Russian army were opened in Russia.
