The International Atomic Energy Agency said on Tuesday that its experts are “closely monitoring the situation” and that there is no “immediate risk to nuclear safety” at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant following the collapse of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant.

“European Truth” writes about this in a message from the IAEA on Twitter.

“The IAEA is aware of reports of destruction at the Ukrainian Kakhovka Dam; IAEA experts at the Zaporizhzhia NPP are closely monitoring the situation; there is no immediate threat to nuclear safety at the plant,” the message reads.

On the morning of June 6, the Operational Command “South” reported that the Russian occupiers blew up the Kakhovskaya HPP, later the OVA confirmed this information. Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson OVA, reported that the evacuation of the local population from dangerous areas has begun.

According to Prokudin, in five hours the water will reach a critical level.

The police noted that in the potential flooding zone on the right bank of the Dnipro River, the villages of Mykolaivka, Olhivka, Lyovo, Tyaginka, Poniativka, Ivanivka, Tokarivka, Prydniprovske, Sadov, and partly the city of Kherson – Korabel Island.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, called Russia’s detonation of the Kakhovskaya HPP a terrible war crime and, probably, the biggest man-made disaster in Europe in recent decades.

Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maria Peychynovych-Burych called the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP criminal and reckless.
