The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conducted the 13th rotation of a new team of experts at the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

About this informs IAEA press service.

The first IAEA mission arrived at the ZNPP last year. Its mission is to have a permanent presence at the facility to help prevent a nuclear accident during a military conflict, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said today.

“For fourteen months, IAEA experts have been working at the ZNPP, monitoring nuclear and physical nuclear security and informing the world about what is happening there,” said IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.

Also, during the last week, IAEA experts visited fresh fuel storages, emergency diesel generators of power unit No. 1, an open distribution point of the 750-kilovolt power line, a central warehouse, and a temporary emergency response center. They were informed that emergency drills are planned for November – the first since before the beginning of the conflict.

In addition, it was confirmed to the IAEA experts that after the completion of the hydraulic tests, power unit No. 3 will be in a cold state.

The IAEA continues to pay close attention to site maintenance, while the maintenance of equipment necessary for station safety remains a concern.

“The reduction in the number of maintenance personnel at the station and the limited availability of all necessary spare parts can affect the operation of safety systems. It is imperative that all necessary maintenance is carried out,” said Grossi.

IAEA experts also continue to collect information on the status and condition of personnel, as well as on the training and licensing of operational personnel at the station in accordance with the regulatory requirements of the Russian Federation.

It is added that IAEA experts need access to all six engine rooms together. However, on October 27, they were granted only partial access to the engine room of reactor unit #2, after having been granted similarly limited access to the engine rooms of power units #1 and #4 earlier that month.

Economic truth.
