The IOC announced the conditions for the admission of Russians to international competitions

[ad_1]

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) proposed to admit athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions if they did not speak out for the war in Ukraine and do not use doping.

“Only those athletes who fully comply with the Olympic Charter could participate in the competition. Namely: those who did not act against the peaceful mission of the IOC, actively supporting the war in Ukraine, and fully comply with the World Anti-Doping Code and all relevant anti-doping rules and regulations.” – said the IOC.

The Committee insists that no athlete should be deprived of the opportunity to participate in competitions only because of his passport. According to the proposal of the IOC, if allowed, Russian and Belarusian athletes will compete under a neutral flag.

The IOC confirmed that the remaining sanctions remain in force. Thus, national flags, anthems and other elements of identification of Russia and Belarus are prohibited at all international competitions. Competitions under the auspices of the IOC are not held on the territory of these countries. Russian and Belarusian officials are not invited or accredited to international competitions and meetings.

  • In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the IOC, as well as the International Paralympic Committee and almost all federations of non-Olympic sports, banned athletes from Russia and Belarus from participating in international competitions.
  • Earlier, the US Olympic and Paralympic Committees and IOC President Thomas Bach spoke in favor of admitting Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Summer Olympics under neutral flags.
