In Irkutsk, the court declared the marriage “between persons who have changed sex” invalid and annulled it. The prosecutor’s office was informed about this by the civil registry office, which last year registered this defect.
“This court decision was the first in the Russian Federation and set a precedent,” the registry office said in a statement.
In a conversation with the press, the head of the regional registry office clarified that it was the Irkutsk registry office that initiated the law on banning sex change, which was recently adopted by the State Duma.
On July 19, the Federation Council unanimously approved a draft law banning transgender transition in Russia. It was previously adopted by the State Duma.
