The last elected mayor of Novosibirsk resigned

Novosibirsk Mayor Anatoly Lokot officially resigned on January 25. This was reported by Sibir.Realii in the press service of the city hall.

Since December 30, Elbow was on vacation. He left the post early on his own accord. The powers of the mayor expired in September 2024. After the resignation of Anatoly Loktya, the duties of the mayor will be performed by his deputy Oleg Klemeshov.

A competition will be announced for the appointment of a new mayor on February 14. The competition commission will include a representative of the regional authorities and Governor Andrey Travnikov, representing United Russia.

Earlier, Anatoly Lokot said that he was leaving his post due to moving to another job.

In autumn, there was a conflict in Loktia with supporters of the war against Ukraine. In November, the mayor’s office of Novosibirsk admitted that public cemeteries are running out of places.

A few days after this statement, a deputy of the Novosibirsk Region Assembly, Andrey Panfyorov (“United Russia”), one of the founders of the “Vega” volunteer battalion participating in the war with Ukraine, criticized the work of the city administration due to the fact that servicemen are buried in a “poor sector ” cemeteries.

Elkot replied to United Russia that a new military burial would be possible only “if there were funds”, for which Panfyorov called the mayor “a low-ranking official” and suggested sending him to the front. Later, Elkot instructed to allocate 12 acres of land for the burial of soldiers “with the observance of military rites.”

• State Duma deputy from the CPRF Anatoly Lokot became the mayor of Novosibirsk in 2014 following the elections. At them, he stood as an opposition candidate against the vice-mayor, a member of United Russia, Vladimir Znatkov, and won about 44% of the vote.
• One of the important events in Lokt’s mayoral politics was the so-called “pact” with Andrey Travnykov, head of the Novosibirsk Region, when Lokt publicly refused to run for governor, and Travnikov promised to maintain direct elections for the head of the city. In 2019, Anatoly Lokot was re-elected for a second term. In February 2023, Novosibirsk regional deputies adopted a bill to abolish direct elections in Novosibirsk and other cities of the region.
