The International Criminal Court in The Hague has started an investigation into the disaster at the Kakhovskaya HPP. His representatives have already arrived in the Kherson region of Ukraine. Lawyer Scott Martin, who cooperates with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in an interview with “Vorstka” magazine, told about what new charges can be brought against Russia and its President Vladimir Putin.

According to Martyn, the prosecutors will investigate the case as an attack on the civil infrastructure of Ukraine, resulting in human casualties, as well as large-scale damage to the environment.

He emphasized that from the point of view of international law, all affected regions – including those now under the control of Russian troops – are recognized as the territory of Ukraine. The lawyer assumes that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will receive new charges against Russian responsible persons, including crimes against humanity in the occupied territories.

Martyn mentioned that the Ministry of Internal Affairs can bring to justice a number of Russian officials: heads of the Ministry of Defense, the GRU, military intelligence, the FSB, senior commanders in the field, responsible for committing crimes against tens of thousands of innocent people. He confirmed that the trial cannot take place unless the accused are brought to the courthouse in The Hague. However, international warrants issued for their arrest may complicate their daily activities and diplomatic reception.

  • On March 17, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Children’s Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. The court statement states that they are suspected of illegally deporting children from Ukraine. The decision of the International Court of Justice was supported by the USA, most of the EU countries and Ukraine.
