The “League of Free Nations” was declared undesirable in Russia

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia recognized the “League of Free Nations” as an undesirable organization in Russia.

The reason given is standard: the public-political movement, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, “poses a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and security of Russia.” The agency claims that the leaders of the League are foreign citizens, live in Lithuania, Great Britain and Ukraine and call for a violation of the territorial integrity of Russia.

“League of Free Nations” unites national movements of peoples living on the territory of Russia. The League includes representatives of the Bashkirs, Buryats, Ingermanlanders, Cossacks, Kalmyks, Tatars, and Erzians. Among the goals of the organization is the acquisition of real sovereignty by the subjects of Russia and the realization of their right to self-determination.

• The work of “undesirable organizations” is prohibited in Russia. Participating in its activities is punishable by a fine of up to 500,000 rubles, and in the case of a repeat episode – up to four years of imprisonment, while the wording of what exactly can be considered participation is vague in the law.
• The Law on Undesirable Organizations has been in force in Russia since 2015. The list of organizations whose activities are considered undesirable on the territory of Russia includes more than 75 foreign and international organizations, including the editions “Project” and “Vazhney istorii”.
