Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine in February last year, the 155th Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet has lost at least 234 soldiers killed, and the total losses of the brigade, including the seriously wounded, dead and missing, may exceed 1,450 people, that is, up to half of its staff.

This is reported by the Russian Service of the BBC. The names of 234 dead servicemen were established together with the “Mediazon” publication based on open sources. It is noted that this is four times more than the losses of this unit during the ten years of the war in Chechnya. Among the dead, it is said, at least 18 officers, including the head of the armored service, Lt. Col. Sergey Moskvychev, four majors and five captains.

Having studied the location of the graves in the cemeteries in Primorye and neighboring regions, the journalists assumed that the real losses of the brigade killed may amount to about 470 people. The approximate number of seriously wounded may be 940 people, since for every soldier killed in the current war there are 1.7-2 seriously wounded. In social networks, relatives announced that 42 fighters of the brigade were missing.

It is noted that during the invasion of Ukraine, the marines performed tasks that are usually assigned to general military formations: for example, an assault on enemy positions on foot. They suffered the greatest losses in the Kyiv region in the first weeks of the war (the Ukrainian authorities accused the fighters of this brigade of committing war crimes in Buche), as well as during the attempts to storm Ugledar in the Donetsk region in the fall of 2022.

A third of the casualties of the 155th brigade were mobilized. The brigade’s losses are indirectly confirmed by the fact that it began to be replenished at the expense of former prisoners who signed contracts with the Ministry of Defense – the so-called “Storm Z” assault troops are created from them. The Russian authorities, despite high losses, manage to replenish the brigade, avoiding its disbandment. She continues fighting in the Ugledar district. The news about the death of a marine of the 155th brigade was published for the last time on December 1. Then it became known about the death of 46-year-old Denis Ivanov.

• In November 2022, the soldiers of the 155th Marine Brigade complained to the governor of Primorye Oleg Kozhemyako about the heavy losses that the unit suffered in the battles in the south of the Donetsk region. The authors of the appeal said that due to ill-considered decisions of the command, they lost 300 people in four days of the offensive.
• At the end of March 2022, Vladimir Putin awarded the 155th Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet the rank of Guards. By that time, the Ukrainian side reported significant losses that the brigade suffered in the first month of the war and was “virtually destroyed.” The Ministry of Defense did not confirm the losses, but already in the spring, the brigade began to be partially equipped at the expense of volunteers, and in September – at the expense of mobilized ones.
