The State Duma Committee opposed the ban on abortions in private clinics

The State Duma Committee on Health Protection opposed the ban on abortions in private clinics. “Vedomosti” writes about this with reference to the committee’s letter sent to the chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin.

The committee believes that it is necessary to preserve the right of Russian women to choose a doctor and medical organization for abortion. At the same time, the deputies note that it is necessary to develop the mechanism of pre-abortion counseling and strengthen control over private clinics.

In addition, the deputies recommend continuing to form “positive reproductive attitudes” in women and informing them about state support measures.

At the beginning of November, Patriarch Kirill proposed to ban abortions in private clinics. Volodin instructed the health committee to study the idea of ​​the church. In December, the corresponding bill was submitted to the State Duma through the zaksobranie of the Nizhny Novgorod region, and the next day, December 14, President of Russia Vladimir Putin spoke about abortion.

In this sphere, “it is necessary to act very carefully”, “women’s rights and freedoms must be respected”, he said in a direct line. Putin compared the anti-abortion campaign with the anti-alcohol campaign, which led to an increase in victims of poisoning by surrogates.

Lawyers fear that if the draft law is adopted, state hospitals will be overburdened – and a woman may miss the period allowed for an abortion.

• In recent months, the idea of ​​limiting the possibility of termination of pregnancy has been discussed by regional and federal authorities. Recently, fines for propensity to abortion were introduced in Mordovia and Tver region. Private clinics in Tatarstan, Kursk and Chelyabinsk regions and annexed Crimea have already refused to perform abortions. In some regions, fines were introduced for “inclination to abortion”.
