The Minister of Justice proposed compulsory treatment of transgender people

The Minister of Justice of Russia, Konstantin Chuichenko, said at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum that transgender people must be sent to compulsory treatment. He also said that the already adopted decision will prohibit the possibility of changing the “gender” marker in the passport and other documents of Russians. Chuichenko noted that there can be two approaches to transgender people: they will be completely prohibited from changing their gender in the passport to the one to which they identify themselves, or they will be allowed to change the passport gender only after the surgical operations have been performed. According to the minister, it is now being decided which approach to apply. However, he himself is a supporter of the first option. “We can deal with these people by providing psychiatric and psychological help to them,” Chuichenko said. “My opinion, the opinion of the Ministry of Justice, is that they should be treated in the direction that nature has determined.”

As noted by “Mediazona”, the head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin spoke on this topic earlier. “The fact that Europe gives them benefits is Europe’s problem. Gender change on paper is fraud, fraud. If this is fraud, this fraud violates the interests of the state, our defense capability,” Bastrykin emphasized.

The draft amendments to the legislation, excluding the possibility of changing the gender marker in the passport, must be presented to the State Duma on May 15.

• From December 2022, the distribution of any non-judgmental information about homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism is prohibited in Russia. Fines of up to 400,000 rubles for citizens and up to five million rubles for organizations are provided for this.
