On Thursday, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced the capture by Russian troops of the village of Tonenkoe in the Donetsk region of Ukraine. This happened thanks to the “coordinated actions of the units of the “Center” troop group,” the Russian military department said in a statement. The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the message. In the morning summary of the General Staff of Ukraine, Tonenkoye is mentioned as one of the settlements in the area of which the Ukrainian army held back enemy attacks.
Tonenkoe is located to the west of Avdeevka, which was taken by Russian troops in February. Russian pro-war bloggers reported on the capture of Tonenko at the end of February, claiming that the Ukrainian defense line had been breached after the capture of Avdeevka. Later, however, they admitted that the fighting in the village, where a little more than 300 people lived before the war, continues. At the beginning of March, the Ukrainian military announced that the enemy’s advance was on the line from Nevelskyi to Berdychei, which also passes through Tonenkoe and Orlovka, to the west of Avdeevka.
A few days ago, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced the capture of Orlovka. If the reports are confirmed, they will mean that the Russian military still managed to overcome the first line of defense of the Ukrainian troops. To the west, however, there is a fortified border based on a system of reservoirs.
There are no reports of any Russian military advances on other areas of the front.
