The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation proposed to change the requirements for the health of conscripts

The Ministry of Defense of Russia proposed to change the requirements for the health status of those who are called up for military service or who conclude contracts for service in the army. This is reported by RBC with reference to the fact that a message about the existence of a similar draft government resolution appeared in the database of normative acts. The text of the project, however, has not been published.

The document says that the project is aimed at “improving the requirements for the health of citizens subject to military service, citizens entering military service under contract, citizens entering military professional organizations or military educational organizations of higher education, citizens entering mobilization of the human reserve, citizens called up for military training”. It is intended, in particular, to change the rules for conducting medical examinations of citizens “having diseases that do not have a significant impact on the ability to perform the duties of military service”, including taking into account the “experience of a special military operation” (this is how the Russian authorities call the war against Ukraine).

The essence of these changes is not clear, but it is known that changes will be made to the Regulations on military medical expertise. It is in this position that there is a list of diseases, depending on the presence of which citizens are assigned various categories of fitness for military service. From the published wording, it is possible to conclude that a greater number of conscripts will be recognized as fit for service in the army than now.
It is confirmed that the public discussion of the project began on November 28 and should end on December 12. It is not clear how exactly this discussion is going, since the text of the project has not been published.

On December 1, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, signed a decree on the increase in the number of armed forces, they will have 1,320,000 military personnel, which is almost 170,000 more than before. The Russian authorities claim that this year more than 400 thousand people signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense or signed up as volunteers to participate in combat operations.
