The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has started an investigation against Yulia Navalny for her violation of the article of the Criminal Code on calls for sanctions against Russia and its citizens, and an appropriate examination has been appointed.

The state news agency RIA “Novosti” reported on the beginning of the examination with reference to the deputy of the State Duma from “United Russia” Andrey Alshevsky. Several pro-Kremlin Telegram channels reported on the investigation under a specific criminal article.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is obliged to verify the received statements about the commission of a crime, the verification itself does not mean the automatic initiation of the case.

The article of the Criminal Code on “calls for the introduction of restrictive measures against the Russian Federation, citizens of the Russian Federation or Russian legal entities” implies a penalty of three years’ imprisonment.

  • After the death of the opposition politician Alexei Navalny in the colony, his wife, Yulia Navalnaya, promised to continue her husband’s work. Later, she met in Brussels with the leaders of the European Union and spoke at a meeting of the EU Council on International Affairs, calling, in particular, to increase the sanctions pressure on supporters of Vladimir Putin.
