The Ministry of Youth and Sports has officially banned Ukrainian athletes from participating in competitions where Russians and Belarusians are allowed

The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine published an order prohibiting the participation of Ukrainian athletes in competitions where Russians and Belarusians compete. He writes about this based on the information published on the website of the Ministry.

According to Order No. 2031 dated April 12, 2023:

• Official delegations of national teams of Ukraine in Olympic, non-Olympic sports and sports of persons with disabilities are prohibited from participating in international sports competitions in which athletes from the Russian Federation and/or the Republic of Belarus participate.
• Departments of Olympic sports, physical culture and non-Olympic sports, the Ukrainian Center for Physical Culture and Sports of the Disabled “Invasport” need to provide a report from the official delegations’ business trips in case of participation in the relevant competitions by athletes from the Russian Federation and/or the Republic of Belarus.
• The persons responsible for the business trips of the respective official delegations must ensure the return of the participants of these official delegations to the territory of Ukraine or to the places from where they were sent.
• All-Ukrainian sports federations are recommended to monitor the possible participation of athletes from the Russian Federation and/or the Republic of Belarus in international sports competitions and promptly inform the Ministry of Youth and Sports if such facts are discovered.
• The heads of independent structural subdivisions of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, whose powers include the coordination of the development of the relevant sport: it is necessary to constantly monitor the participation of representatives of all-Ukrainian sports federations with national status, including athletes representing these federations, in international sports competitions in which athletes from Russia take part Federation and/or Republic of Belarus; and submit relevant documents to the Commission in order to grant the sports federation national status.

The document also notes that the corresponding order was issued in accordance with the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated March 30, 2023 to implement measures to remove athletes, coaches, and other representatives of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus from participating in international sports competitions and to strengthen measures to prevent the promotion of military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in the midst of the international sports community.

Athletes from Russia and Belarus will be admitted to triathlon competitions.
