The mixed marathon walking relay will make its debut at the Olympic Games in Paris

The mixed marathon walking relay has been included in the list of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Agence France Presse reports.

It will replace the men’s 50 km sport walk, which first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1932, but which was abandoned in the pursuit of gender equality.

In the new mixed relay, 25 teams will take part, each of which consists of one man and one woman, who will alternately overcome the marathon distance (42.195 km) in four stages.

The relay will be held on the same route as the individual 20 km race walk, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower in the center of Paris. According to World Athletics, the qualification path of the team will be published soon.

The athletics program in Paris 2024, consisting of 48 sports, is now perfectly balanced: 23 events for men and women with two mixed events: the 4x400m relay and the marathon walk.

Next year’s Games will also include break dancing in the Olympic program for the first time.
