The expert commission of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine reviewed the achievements of Ukrainian athletes at the leading international competitions in the Olympic types of the program in April and determined the main characters of the second month of spring, the organization reported, writes
“The best athlete of April 2023” became Ilya Kovtun – a two-time bronze medalist and champion of Europe in gymnastics. Iryna Nadyuk – Ilya Kovtun’s personal trainer – was recognized as the “Best Trainer of April 2023”.
“The best young sportswoman of April 2023” was Anna Maksimenko, the bronze medalist of the World Junior Fencing Championship in individual epee competitions. Andrey Orlykovskiy, Anna Maksimenko’s personal trainer, was recognized as “the best coach of a young athlete of April 2023”.
The Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation and the Central Sports Club of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will also receive an award for training the best athlete of April 2023 – Ilya Kovtun.
Winners of the sports month will be awarded with cash prizes, exclusive statuettes and commemorative plaques.
After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, there are calls around the world to prevent athletes from the aggressor state from participating in international competitions.
In particular, Estonia called on the International Olympic Committee not to allow Russia to participate in the Olympics, in Georgia and Lausanne, actions were held calling for a boycott of the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions, and the Czech Fencing Association and the NOC of Canada advocated the suspension of the Russian and Russian national teams from international tournaments. while the military invasion continues.
