The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has determined that the object that damaged a house in the United States in early March 2024 was once part of the International Space Station.

The results studies of the object indicate that this cylindrical object is a piece of space debris from equipment thrown from the space station, informs Science X Daily.

Three years before the incident, NASA ground controllers used a robotic arm on the International Space Station to launch a cargo pallet of obsolete batteries into space. The total weight of the discarded parts was more than 2.5 tons.

It was expected that the objects would burn up completely upon entering the Earth’s atmosphere. However, one piece weighing 0.7 kilograms pierced the ceiling and tore up the floor of a house in Naples, Florida.

NASA promised to analyze the emission of parts of the ISS and determine the reason why the object survived after entering the Earth’s atmosphere.
