Ukraine has information about almost 2,000 people over 70 years of age who have become victims of enforced disappearances.

This was announced by the representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense Andriy Yusov during the event “Civilians in illegal detention by Russia: joint steps of the authorities and civil society for their release”. writes “Ukrinform”.

According to him, it is officially recognized that more than 14 thousand Ukrainian civilians are in Russian captivity. These are the data of human rights organizations and partners of Ukraine.

“This number can be much higher. And also (there are data on – ed.) about 2 thousand victims of enforced disappearances over 70 years old,” Yusov noted.

According to him, the International Committee of the Red Cross has currently confirmed 868 cases of civilians being held in places of detention in Russia. However, Yusov added that in reality this number is many times higher.

“But the very fact that the ICRC defines and recognizes the stay of civilians in places of deprivation of liberty is already recognition of the fact of war crimes, a direct violation of the Geneva Conventions by the Russian Federation.” – added the representative of GUR.

We will remind, ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reported, that almost 37 thousand people are considered missing in Ukraine. Among them are children, civilians and soldiers.
