In Great Britain, radiologists have said that bra taxation is discrimination against women.

In their opinion, this item of underwear should be exempt from VAT, informs The Telegraph.

The members of the Society of Radiologists made such a statement at their annual conference.

“VAT on bras disproportionately affects women. Taxing bras can be considered discriminatory under the Equality Act 2010.

Although wearing a bra may not cause any health problems, there is a risk of some musculoskeletal problems, especially if you wear a larger cup size.” – they claim.

According to them, women who wear bras with a D cup size and above often experience back pain, shoulder and neck pain due to the heavy weight of their breasts.

At the same time, wearing a quality, well-fitting bra can alleviate these problems and reduce the time spent in the hospital due to problems with the musculoskeletal system.

In their statement, the doctors compared bras to menstrual products.

In January 2024, VAT on pads, tampons and menstrual cups was abolished in Great Britain. It follows a two-year campaign from a variety of brands, retailers and women’s organizations.

Only 20% tax remains on menstrual panties, which are an alternative to using tampons and pads. They were classified as clothes.

Currently, only women who have undergone breast cancer surgery are exempt from paying VAT on certain bras.
