The Penza City Council deleted the recording of the meeting criticizing the PR of the war

The Penza city council has removed from its official resources the recording of a meeting in which the mayor of the city, Alexander Basenko, criticized the installation of memorial plaques on school buildings with the names of those who died in the war in Ukraine. The head of Penza called to abandon this practice, explaining it by the unwillingness to “create necropolises”.

In his speech at the meeting that took place on November 24, Basenko emphasized that he “respects” the participants of the so-called special military operation, but reminded that children with not yet stable psyches study in schools, and that a large number of memorial plaques can frighten and ultimately cause them to have a negative attitude towards serving in the army. The mayor of Penza proposed to “perpetuate the memory of the heroes after the victory”, which, according to him, he has no doubts about.

After the mayor’s speech went viral on the Internet and was reacted to in the State Duma, he called Basenko’s words “inadmissible” and “incorrect”, the head of Penza said that his speech was “fraudulently composed” and it was spread by “falling on the unhealthy sensationalism of talagrams” – channels”.
