The plane of Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov refused to refuel in Brazil

The plane of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, was refused refueling in Brazil due to the risk of falling under secondary US sanctions.

Lavrov was supposed to fly on the government Il-96 from the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro to the capital of Brazil for a meeting with the country’s president, Lula da Silva. After the airliner refused to refuel, the Brazilian side offered Lavrov to fly to the meeting as a “companion” on the plane of the head of the Foreign Ministry of Brazil, Mauro Vieira.

It is reported that after the conversation with da Silva, the Russian official will still be picked up by a plane, which will be refueled in another place.

Earlier, the Brazilian authorities presented a new charge against the alleged Russian spy Sergei Cherkasov, who is serving a five-year prison term in the country for forging documents. The new charge concerns money laundering, because of which the Russian will now not be able to apply for early release.

It was reported that Ivan Chetverikov, an employee of the Russian Embassy in Brazil, was also charged. The investigation believes that he deposited money into one of the banks in Rio de Janeiro every month, and Cherkasov withdrew it. At the same time, Chetverikov left Brazil last year.
