The police officers were given a conditional sentence in the case of the murder of Vera Pekhteleva

The court in Kemerovo imposed conditional terms on five policemen who did not show up for the call during the murder of 23-year-old Vera Pekhteleva in January 2020. This was reported by TASS from the courtroom.
Major Mikhail Balashov and captain Dmitry Taritsyn, as well as dispatcher Maria Ponomareva each received two years of probation, dispatchers Maria Dunaeva and Kristina Yudyntseva received one and a half years of probation each. Balashov and Taritsyn worked in the district police department, Ponomarev, Dunaev and Yudyntsev – in the duty unit of the city’s Department of Internal Affairs. They were convicted under the article of negligence that led to the death of a person.
According to the Investigative Committee, the shift chief Balashov and the most senior operational duty officer Taritsyn were on duty in the “Leninsky” department. They received reports of a fight in one of the apartments, but did not react. They informed the city police that they could not send the outfit due to a lack of personnel. None of the police officers reported the situation to the superiors.
The policemen did not cooperate with the investigation and were not found guilty. The court demanded 30,000 rubles from them as compensation for moral damage. In addition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will pay two million rubles to the relatives of Vera Pekhteleva.

The court established that the murder was committed with special cruelty, the torture lasted for several hours, and the victim had 111 injuries. Neighbors called the police seven times, but no one came.
- Vladyslav Kanyus could go to the front from prison. According to the mother of the dead girl, Kanyus recently published photos of himself in a camouflage uniform on social networks. Pekhteleva’s relatives fear that Kanyus may return after being pardoned for participating in the war.
