“The European Commission will pay Polish farmers as compensation for what, in my opinion, was really a bluff on the part of Polish farmers,” Kaczka noted.
In April, Poland and several other eastern EU members imposed restrictions on the export of Ukrainian food products, citing a sharp drop in prices on the market, which caused damage to their farmers. This step provoked criticism from the EU.
“With the intervention of the Commission, we get some de-escalation of the situation, but the situation is not resolved,” Kachka said.
