The prosecutor’s office requested 9 years in prison for the author of the “Protestny MSU” channel

The prosecutor’s office asked to appoint nine years in prison to Dmitry Ivanov, the author of the Telegram channel “Protestny MSU”. Ivanov is accused of spreading “fakes” about the Russian army. On his channel, he published anti-war posts dedicated to, among other things, the events in Buche, the shelling of Mariupol and the Zaporizhia NPP.

Prosecutor Yulia Pravosud stated during the hearing in the Tymyryazevsky court in Moscow that Dmitry Ivanov “cynically spoke out against his fatherland” and the public danger of his posts “cannot be overestimated.” Her words are quoted by “Mediazon”, which broadcast live from the courtroom.

Ivanov’s lawyer Maria Eismont, on the contrary, required an acquittal for his client. In her opinion, his actions do not constitute a crime.

Ivanov will be sentenced on March 7.

  • A criminal case against 23-year-old MSU student Dmitry Ivanov was initiated in June of last year. He is in a pre-trial detention center. In January, after the next court session, Ivanov was beaten by the escort, according to the lawyer.
  • In February, Ivanov’s defense had to summon the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov, the head of the press service and information department of the Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov and the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Security Council Vitaly Nebenzu to participate in the process. The court granted the petition and declared that subpoenas would be sent to them. Until they appeared in court.
