It is noted that the Russians have still not provided timely and adequate access for IAEA experts to all areas critical to nuclear safety and security, including some parts of the turbine halls, the isolation gates of the ZANP cooling reservoir and the 330 kV open switchyard. at the nearby Zaporizhzhya TPP.
“The IAEA is aware of messages on social networks and images related to the presence of troops and equipment in one of the turbine halls of the ZNPP. The presence of such vehicles in the turbine halls of the ZNPP was previously reported by Director General Rafael Grossi,” the message reads.
In addition, at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, IAEA experts continued to hear explosions and small arms fire at various distances from the plant every day for the past week.
Despite this, the IAEA team continued to conduct regular rounds of the site during the last week. During an inspection last week, the IAEA team did not find any problems related to nuclear safety.
Also, repair work on parts of the safety system of power unit No. 1 has still not been resumed after last week the ZANP decided to postpone them again. However, other planned maintenance work is carried out elsewhere at the ZNPP.
It is added that at the ZNPP, one of the sprinkler basins of the 5th power unit has started to be drained in order to clean it, which will last about three weeks, after which the sprinkler basin of the 6th unit will also be cleaned.
