The Russian military became more active near Avdeevka

Since the morning of October 10, there have been reports of massive shelling by Russian troops of Avdeevka in the Donetsk region. Russian troops tried to take this city northwest of Donetsk from the very beginning of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February last year, but Ukrainian troops held it. In recent months, no active assault operations were conducted there.

Both Russian and Ukrainian sources report heavy shelling. RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to local residents that the strikes began at 5 am. Video of the shelling is published. Smoke is visible and explosions are heard.

Heavy fighting is going on north of the city, the head of the Avdeev city military administration, Vitaly Barabash, said in a commentary on the Suspilne TV channel. It is also reported about the strikes of the Russian air force.

So far, there are no data on casualties or injuries among the civilians who remain in the city, despite the proximity to the front.

In Russian pro-military telegram channels, there are more reports of strikes on Avdeevka. They state that the Russian army “conducts the most massive artillery shelling of enemy positions in recent months.” Some channels also write about the transition of Russian troops to the offensive and even about the territory occupied during it. In particular, it is claimed that the Russian troops managed to advance and occupy a section of the strategically important E50 highway, as well as launch an attack from the side of Krasnohorovka and approach the village of Berdychy. Avdeevka is in fact semi-encircled, and the marked directions of the strikes may indicate that Russian troops are trying to cut off the supply routes of the Ukrainian group.

Ukrainian sources do not confirm this information, but they also write about heavy battles and the demands of the Russians “pressing simultaneously from opposite directions.”

The events near Avdeevka have not yet been mentioned in the official Russian and Ukrainian reports.

There are also reports that Russian troops will advance on other areas of the front – in the Maryinka district, near Kupyansk, as well as in the Zaporozhye region in the Pyatikhatok district.
