In Vladivostok, a fire broke out on Monday night at the ship repair center “Dalzavod” on the multi-functional ship supply ship of reinforced ice class “Kateryna Velikaya”. One person died, three were hospitalized, the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor’s Office reported.

According to the regional management of the Ministry of Emergencies, on the ship “Kateryna Velikaya” as a result of the fire, a technological room with an area of ​​about 50 square meters was damaged. 15 units of fire-fighting equipment and 54 personnel were involved in extinguishing the fire.

The cause of the fire is not disclosed.

Ships of the “Catherine the Great” type are intended for an unlimited navigation area, including in difficult climatic conditions. They can overcome Arctic ice up to one and a half meters thick. They are used for the transportation of cargo to sea objects, icebreaking operations, control of the ice situation, rescue, escort, firefighting, towing of large objects, transportation of containers on the main deck.

The first reinforced ice-class supply ship “Kateryna Velikaya” was launched from the slipway of the Zvezda shipbuilding complex in December 2020. This is one of four vessels built for Rosneft. President Vladimir Putin took part in laying on the slipway.
