The Special Service of Moldova breaks off cooperation with the FSB and SVR

The Information and Security Service (SIB) of the Republic of Moldova has terminated cooperation with the Federal Security Service of Russia. According to the Moldovan service of Radio Liberty, on July 31, the legal procedure for the termination of two agreements between the SIB and the FSB began. “Official notifications have been sent to the authorities of the Russian Federation,” says the press release published on the SIB website.

Also, as it is claimed, the Moldovan special service, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, took measures to denounce the agreement on cooperation with the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR). According to the SIB, the agreements “have no practical applicability” and are “dysfunctional”, and the provisions of these documents, signed in 1994, could be used by Moscow as a proposal for the presence of representatives of the Russian special services in the self-proclaimed Transnistria.

The meeting of the Moldovan special services was preceded by a spy scandal. The authorities of Moldova announced the expulsion of 18 diplomats and 27 representatives of the technical staff of the Russian Embassy. This was preceded by the publication of an investigation by The Insider and Jurnal TV, which stated, in particular, that there are antennas on the roof of the Russian embassy in Chisinau that allow listening to telephone conversations. In addition, it was claimed that employees of the SVR and Russian military intelligence, closely connected with hacker groups, often appear there.

The Russian authorities have not yet commented on the break in relations between the SIB and the Russian special services.
