During the spring session, the State Duma will adopt a bill on raising the maximum conscription age in Russia from 27 to 30. At the same time, the minimum will remain the same, 18 years, at least for several conscriptions. “Verstka” reports about this.
The publication refers to anonymous sources in the lower house. One of the interlocutors of the editorial office reported that the draft law being developed will be supplemented by by-laws that will establish the “transitional period” of the change in the conscription age for the next few years.
During this period, the minimum conscription age will be 18 years, not 21, as previously announced by the Ministry of Defense. Earlier, Andrey Kartapolov, head of the Duma Committee on Defense, also spoke about such a period in an interview with “Parlamentskaya Gazeta”.
The change in the conscription age in Russia was announced in December by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. The idea was publicly supported by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. Spring conscription in Russia is scheduled from April 1 to July 15.
- In June, the State Duma proposed to allow 18-year-olds to enter service contracts immediately after they graduate from high school. The amendment was approved at the level of the defense committee, but later withdrawn. Nevertheless, Shoigu announced plans to allow signing a contract from the first day of the draft.
- In the fall, mobilization into the army was announced in Russia. The reason was the lack of military personnel for the war in Ukraine. According to estimates from Western sources, Russian troops could lose about 100 thousand people killed and wounded during the war. Moscow does not disclose losses.
