The Ukrainian court banned the activities of the Party of Regions

In Ukraine, the appellate court banned the activities of the Party of Regions, the leader of which was the former president of the country Viktor Yanukovych for a long time. In addition, the court decided to nationalize the property belonging to the party.

It is noted that the representatives of the political association can appeal the decision within twenty days.

The Party of Regions was officially registered in Ukraine in 2000. Three years later, Viktor Yanukovych became its leader. During the period of his presidency, the political association led by him had a majority in the parliament, and the chairman of the party, Nikolay Azarov, was the country’s prime minister. Opponents of the Party of Regions called it “pro-Russian”.

After the 2014 revolution and Yanukovych’s flight from the country, the party lost political influence and actually ceased to exist. Many former members of the Party of Regions joined the second association, which was also called “pro-Russian” – “Opposition Platform – For Life”. After the full-scale armed invasion of the Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine, the activity of the OPZZ was suspended by the decree of Volodymyr Zelensky.
