The administration of US President Joe Biden is working on providing long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine. This was reported by the NBC News channel with reference to two American officials.

At the end of last year, the USA began supplying Ukraine with medium-range ATACMS missiles. According to the interlocutors of the TV channel, the USA is now inclined to supply long-range missiles that would allow Ukraine to strike deeper into the territory of the annexed Crimea.

However, as noted by NBC News, the issue of financing arms supplies to Ukraine is still not resolved. Last week, the US Senate approved a $95 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. It is not yet clear whether the bill will pass the House of Representatives, which is controlled by Republicans.

Representatives of the Ministry of Defense told NBC News that the USA has a limited stock of ATACMS missiles and that they are unlikely to send them to Ukraine unless money is allocated to replenish the American stocks.

According to two US officials, if Congress approves an increase in funding for arms supplies to Ukraine, the US may include long-range ATACMS systems in one of the first military aid packages. The interlocutors of the TV channel also admitted that the USA may ask its allies to provide Ukraine with missiles and replenish ATACMS stocks.

  • On February 13, the US Senate voted for a bill on additional defense spending of $95 billion, including allocating $60 billion to Kyiv. Later, Biden called on the House of Representatives to “immediately” consider the initiative. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson insists that any package of international military and humanitarian aid must also include measures to ensure security on the US-Mexico border.
