The USA pointed to “diplomatic costs” for the Russian Federation due to the grain deal

In an interview with CBS, the US President’s national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, expressed the opinion that Russia’s possible exit from the grain deal with Ukraine would cost Moscow high diplomatic costs.
“I cannot predict what Vladimir Putin will do. Perhaps Russia will withdraw from the agreement, perhaps they will continue. If they withdraw from it, the rest of the world will look at this and say that Russia has turned its back on the countries of the Global South and Africa, Latin America and Asia could get the necessary food at affordable prices. I think that in the future this will cost Russia huge diplomatic costs,” said Sullivan. Joe Biden’s adviser noted that the US is ready for any scenario and closely interacts with Kyiv on this issue.
Earlier it was reported that the last ship with Ukrainian food left the port of Odessa on Sunday morning as part of the existing grain deal. Its validity expires on July 17.
Moscow’s claims to the deal relate to parts of the agreement on lifting restrictions on Russian exports of agricultural products and fertilizers. The Russian authorities declare that this part of the deal is not being implemented.
- The grain deal, according to which food is exported from Black Sea ports blocked by Russia, was concluded in July last year with the assistance of Turkey and the UN. The agreement was extended several times. The last time was May 17.
