The Moscow City Court sentenced a 21-year-old student of the Astrakhan State University of Architecture and Construction, Hleb Verdiyan, to six years in a strict regime colony in the case of preparing for a coup. This was reported by the press service of the Moscow Courts of General Jurisdiction.
Verdyan was also fined 200,000 rubles and restricted for one hour. The case was considered in private, so it is not known what exactly the student is accused of.
The “Mediazon” publication notes that Verdiyan has become the youngest person accused of treason, which is publicly known. Last fall, he was arrested in Moscow for 10 days on an administrative case of petty hooliganism. In November 2022, he was placed in a pre-trial detention center for treason.
- In 2023, more criminal cases of state corruption will be instituted in Russia than in the previous 20 years, – this is the conclusion of the publication “Cold”, after studying the statistics of similar cases for the past seven months.
- According to the publication, from January to July 2023, at least 82 cases of state corruption were initiated in Russia – these are only those that can be found in open sources. For the whole of 2022, only 20 such cases were initiated. The article emphasizes that the real number of criminal cases may be significantly larger, since the FSB does not report on all such cases.
- The publication notes that the last time such a number of cases under the article about treason were initiated only during the years of Joseph Stalin’s rule.
