The Volgograd political scientist was detained for alleged connections with Prigozhin

Political scientist and publicist Mikhail Serenko was detained in Volgograd on Saturday evening. According to his relatives, Serenko is suspected of complicity in the armed rebellion of Yevgeny Prigozhin and his PMC “Wagner”. At the moment, this is the first person detained in connection with the rebellion.

According to Serenko’s wife, six armed policemen and an investigator entered their apartment at 10 p.m. The law enforcement officers took almost all the equipment from the apartment and took Serenko, presumably, to the Department of Internal Affairs, without letting the lawyer call.

“The investigator read something, allegedly, that he came allegedly in connection with the criminal case about the mutiny of PMC “Wagner”. And Mikhail allegedly facilitated it. This is complete nonsense!” Serenko’s wife told journalists. She was able to call the lawyer only after her husband was taken away.
Subsequently, the political scientist’s defense attorney clarified that the FSB is conducting operational support of the criminal case, but it is not yet known what exactly he is being accused of.

• Mikhail Serenko worked in several Volgograd print media. He was a deputy of the city duma, and then he was appointed the head of the administration of the Traktorozavod district. Later, he headed MIAC and municipal television of Volgograd. A few years ago, he became the founder of the online publication “Island of Freedom”.
• The press secretary of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, announced on Saturday evening that neither Prigozhin himself, nor the PMC mercenaries who participated in the rebellion will be subject to criminal prosecution.
