There are mass actions against fossil fuels in the world

Tens of thousands of environmental activists from different countries started protest actions against fossil fuels, the burning of which accelerates climate warming.
The protests, initiated mainly by youth climate groups, will take place from September 15 to 17. Eco-activists demand that the authorities refuse to participate in fossil fuel extraction projects, invest in the development of local renewable energy and pay compensation to communities affected by the climate crisis.
Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg “Fridays for Tomorrow” will take part in the protests. Thunberg started a strike against the insufficient efforts of the authorities to combat climate change five years ago, while she was still a schoolgirl. Today it became known that Thunberg will soon appear in court on charges of disobeying the police during the July protest. She may face six months in prison.
A week before the global climate strike, the UN noted that countries are significantly lagging behind the plan to limit global warming to 1.5°C, which was agreed upon in 2015. Since then, the planet has already warmed by at least 1.1°C.
The summer of 2023 became the hottest in recorded history: temperature records were broken one after another. UN meteorologists associate the record heat with anthropogenic climate change and the beginning of El Niño – an increase in the temperature of the equatorial waters of the Pacific Ocean.
High temperatures lead to the death of people and animals, the destruction of plants, and also contribute to the spread of droughts and forest fires.
