There is a lot of debate going on now about how the rebuilding should go. The main principle is that reconstruction should take place quickly, transparently, qualitatively and according to modern standards.

In order to start the reconstruction process as quickly as possible, it is worth preparing already. At the same time, use modern construction technologies available in Ukraine, which will allow to build quickly and with high quality.

Recently, the Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure presented typical projects of kindergartens, schools and administrative buildings that Ukrainian communities can use for free.

Typical design was common during the period of reconstruction in European countries after the Second World War and allowed to speed up the recovery process.

Business also offers solutions. For example, one of the modern technologies is steel frame construction. Housing using this technology is being built in Great Britain, the USA, Thailand and other countries. Previously, in Ukraine, such technology was used for the construction of infrastructure objects – bridges, industrial buildings.

The first residential 8-story building with a steel frame began to be built in Mariupol, but did not have time to complete it due to the war.

After the liberation of the city, they plan to build an entire residential quarter with social infrastructure using steel construction technology. This approach will allow building faster and better.

The complex construction project was developed by “Metinvest” and handed over to the Mariupol City Council, which is currently working remotely. Developing such a project now will save time for designing after the victory. The residential quarter for Mariupol is designed for approximately 10,000 residents.

According to him, the main advantage of steel construction is the speed of construction, which will be important after the deoccupation of the city.
The use of steel in the foundation of the building, which accounts for up to 15% of the project estimate, reduces the total cost of the project by 2-3%.

In total, Rinat Akhmetov’s Metinvest company developed projects for 13 types of steel buildings, including residential buildings with a height of 1 to 8 floors, social infrastructure objects (school, kindergarten, dispensary) and related infrastructure (parking, sports complex and underground shelter). .

The concept envisages more than 200 ready-made building projects based on three prefabricated metal elements: frame, module and platform.

Ready-made building projects can be used in other communities. At the same time, their adaptation will cost about twice as much as the development of a new project from scratch.

Some experts warn that if you use typical standard projects, then the reconstruction will be similar to the Soviet approach, where all the buildings are the same, only the names differ.

However, unlike in Soviet times, communities have the option of designing independently or taking a ready-made modern project, as well as hundreds of different options for adaptation.

Therefore, future reconstruction can be based on a mix of unique and typical projects. The main task for communities, businesses and the central government now, while the war continues, is to form a vision for future reconstruction, take the best from foreign experience and do everything to start work as quickly as possible after the fighting ends.
