They want to make pornography legal. How will it work and how will it affect the economy?
Ukraine remains one of the few countries in Europe where pornographic content is criminalized. Moreover, in the understanding of the state, even sending one’s own nude photos in a personal message to an acquaintance is considered a crime.
Every year, law enforcement officers open more than a thousand proceedings under articles related to the distribution of porn, the investigation of which takes tens of thousands of working hours and millions of hryvnias from the budget. Decriminalization of pornography can change the situation – and the corresponding bill has already been registered in the Verkhovna Rada.
Who does the state prosecute for the production and distribution of pornography? How is it proposed to decriminalize porn and what will be the consequences for the economy? We talked about this with one of the developers of the draft law on the decriminalization of porn, the executive director of the BRDO analytical center Oleksiy Dorohan.
