Time magazine published a list of 12 contenders for the title “Women of the Year 2024”. Among them are figures of science, culture and sports, civil activists. According to Time, they are united by the fact that they are building a better future for women and society, and show by their own example what it can be.

The list includes actress and film director Greta Gerwig, whose film “Barbies” – a satire on the consumer society – became one of the highest-grossing in 2023, and this year was nominated for the “Oscar” award in six nominations. Another film activist on the list is actress Taraji Henson, who fights for equal pay for acting work of men and women and regularly raises the topic of wage inequality in Hollywood.

The list includes the winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Economics, Claudia Goldin: her research is devoted to the role of women’s work in the economy and how this role changes over the course of history. The second scientist, geneticist Marlena Feizo, studied toxicosis in pregnant women and found that the tendency to it depends on genetic predisposition.

The authors of the list noted the efforts of women activists in Israel and Palestine, who work together for peace.

There are 12 candidates in the list. Time magazine will announce its choice at a ceremony in Los Angeles in early March. In many countries, March has been declared by the public as the month of women’s history.
