On August 12, two Red Wings airline Boeing 777 aircraft broke down. The airline had to postpone flights on August 12 and 13 along the Yekaterinburg-Antalya route and back. About 400 passengers were stuck at Yekaterinburg airport and Antalya. These are mainly tourists flying to a Turkish resort on vacation or returning from there.

At the moment, the delay of the first flights is more than 40 hours. According to the tourists, they were accommodated in a hotel in Antalya, but they have no information when they will be able to fly home.

In addition, on August 13, a Red Wings flight from Antalya to Zhukovsky airport near Moscow was delayed. The passengers were able to fly to Moscow almost a day later.

Red Wings reported that it requested an aircraft from the IKAR airline to take passengers of delayed flights. According to the representative of the airline, the IKAR plane left Moscow for Koltsovo Airport in Yekaterinburg in the middle of the day on Monday.

There are three Boeing 777s in the Red Wings fleet.

  • Sanctions imposed by the USA and EU countries against Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine have significantly affected civil aviation. European and American companies are prohibited from directly supplying Russia with spare parts and carrying out maintenance of aircraft of Russian airlines, including Boeing and Airbus. Russia is forced to resort to the so-called “cannibalization” – to disassemble some planes for spare parts to repair others.
