Two men were given time for planning to set fire to a car and commit suicide

The court sentenced two residents of Omsk, Vladimir Sergeev and Anton Zhuchkov, to 8 and 10 years in prison, respectively, for planning to set fire to a car and commit suicide.

Both were convicted under the article of preparation for a terrorist attack, Zhuchkov was also accused of selling drugs. They will spend three years in prison, the remaining part of the term – in a colony of strict regime.

Sergeev and Zhuchkov were detained in early March 2022 in Moscow, when they were going to an anti-war rally. According to the verdict, the Omychis planned to set fire to a police car. When Sergeev was detained, among other things, a canister with a gas cylinder and a vodka bottle with a hunting match were found in Sergeev’s backpack, Mediazona writes.

In the car park, the detainees tried to commit suicide, took large doses of drugs. They were taken to the hospital, and after discharge they were sent to the SIZO on charges of hooliganism. Later, the case was reclassified to the preparation of a terrorist attack.

Both natives of Omsk stated that they planned suicide as a “protest against the military operation in Ukraine and confrontation with the West.” In court, Sergeev confirmed that he planned to set fire to the “riot police car” and emphasized that Zhuchkov did not know about it. Zhuchkov himself said from the very beginning that he was only going to commit suicide “so as not to see what is happening in the world.”

Also, Zhuchkov was convicted of selling drugs on the basis of Sergeev’s testimony, which he gave after resuscitation, without a lawyer and, as he claims, under pressure. Later, Sergeev refused to testify. In court, both stated that they purchased the drugs on their own.
