Ukraine imposes sanctions against Iran

At a meeting on Tuesday, April 25, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to submit proposals for the application of sectoral sanctions to Iran for consideration by the National Security Council. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy.

Sanctions for 50 years
The government proposes to introduce sanctions for 50 years. They contain:
- prevention of withdrawal of capital by residents of the Islamic Republic of Iran outside Ukraine;
- prohibiting the transfer of technologies, rights to objects of intellectual property rights to residents of Iran;
- prohibition of investments in Iran and in favor of residents of the country;
- suspension of service of electronic payment means (including transfers, implementation of calculations and issuing of cash) issued by residents of Iran;
- prohibition of registration of the NBU of the international payment system, a participant of the international payment system, the operators of which are residents of the Islamic Republic of Iran, etc.;
- restriction of trade operations with goods subject to international transfers of the Law “On State Control of International Transfers of Goods for Military Use and Dual Use” with residents of the Islamic Republic of Iran (full ban).
In addition, it is proposed to limit trade operations with services related to the supply, sale, transfer, production or use of such goods, complete cessation of transit of resources, flights and transportation by residents of Iran on the territory of Ukraine, related to the above-mentioned operations.

“We are launching sectoral sanctions against Iran. Previous restrictions introduced by Ukraine and our partners in relation to persons and companies directly involved in the supply of weapons to Russia, unfortunately, were not taken as a serious warning.
Well, we will strengthen our arguments. We will also work to ensure that as many countries as possible join such tough decisions. Aggression against Ukraine will not go unpunished. This is exactly how the aggressor’s help will not go unpunished,” said First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyridenko.
The sanctions proposed by the government will enter into force after the adoption of the relevant decision by the National Security and Defense Council, its implementation by the President of Ukraine, and approval by the Verkhovna Rada.
