In 2023, “United Russia” will nominate former soldiers, volunteers, as well as volunteers who worked in the Donbass for elections to legislative executive bodies. This was reported by “Vedomosti” with reference to four sources in the presidential administration.
“These people have shown themselves to be patriots, so if any of them wants to pursue a political career, they have every opportunity,” said one of the interlocutors of the publication. Another source explained that it is beneficial to have such candidates in the team, because “there is a demand for it in society.”
According to a source close to the State Duma, several deputies went to the “special military operation” zone to use the status of “veterans” in the upcoming election campaigns.
As an example, the deputy of the State Duma from Khakassia, Sergey Sokol, who went to Donbass as a volunteer, is mentioned. Sokol claims that he serves in “intelligence” as part of the “Cascade” unit. The day before, he announced that he had extended his three-month contract with the Ministry of Defense. In 2023, Sokol can take part in the election of the governor of Khakassia.
Andrey Turchak, Secretary of the General Council of “United Russia”, wrote in his Telegram channel that the deputies are already in a combat unit headed by Dmitry Sablin, head of the public organization “Boevoe Bratstvo”.
Three more parliamentary parties are ready to bet on the participants in the war in Ukraine. The CPRF reported that about 400 party members participated in the war in Ukraine as volunteers, and 13 people died. Dmitry Gusev, deputy head of the Just Russia faction, said that 56 members of the party are in the zone of unrest in Ukraine. In “Spravedliva Rossii” they even proposed to reserve seats in the authorities for the participants of the so-called “special operation”.
Alexey Dydenko, the deputy head of the LDPR faction, said that “several hundred” party members are participating in hostilities and, according to him, “will become an important part of the party elite” after returning to peaceful life.
Regional elections this year will be held on September 10. It is planned to elect 21 governors, as well as deputies of 20 legislative assemblies.
