Yakut musician and civil activist Aikhal Ammosov was kidnapped in Kazakhstan on Monday. As the Movement for Independence of Sakha “Soprotivlenie” reported, people in civilian clothes put him in a car and took him to an unknown direction. Now there is no connection with him.
As an acquaintance of Ammosov told Sota, in recent days, law enforcement officers of Kazakhstan have been paying attention to him. According to them, the police came to the person who was helping Ammosov to issue a temporary residence permit, and were generally interested in his place of residence (the activist was registered in Astana, but lived in Almaty).
Aikhal Ammosov (passport name Igor Ivanov) is an activist of the movement for the independence of Yakutia (Sakha). He opposed Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. After the protests, he was fined three times under administrative protocols for “discrediting the army” for graffiti, leaflets and a picket, and in August 2022, a criminal case was initiated against him under the same article. After that, Ammosov moved to Kazakhstan.
According to Ammosov, he was going to leave Kazakhstan for one of the European countries.
