During a press conference in Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about the request of the military to increase the mobilization of the country’s citizens to participate in the war against Russia.
BBC News correspondent Oksana Torop asked Zelensky: “Will there be changes in the process of mobilization, its strengthening or acceleration, because the war continues, there are losses, will everything be served?”.
“I will say frankly, the military asked me to give the opportunity to mobilize more people,” the Ukrainian president replied, adding that he had not made any decisions yet.
Zelensky also responded to the criticism of the tactics of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the counteroffensive, which appeared in several major Western publications. In particular, the New York Times reported that representatives of the US military command and military experts negatively assess the dispersion of the Ukrainian army along the entire front line – while, in their opinion, all efforts should be concentrated on the main direction of the counteroffensive – on south of the country
“Does anyone know from experts how many occupiers are in the east? Approximately 200 thousand. They suggest to us: let’s take our Armed Forces from there and transfer them somewhere. I think the following will happen after this: Slavyansk, Kramatorsk for a couple of days, then they they will go to Pavlograd, the Dnieper, they will cut off the banks,” the Ukrainian president explained, adding that the Ukrainian army would not surrender “neither Kharkov, nor Donbass, nor Pavlograd, nor the Dnieper, and let all the analysts of the world not even count on that.”
- Last week, Volodymyr Zelensky announced the decision to dismiss the heads of all regional military enlistment offices – due to the fact that law enforcement agencies of Ukraine discovered large-scale corruption schemes in the institutions. Military enlistment offices are being searched all over the country.
